FUKU-GO
Martin got off to a great start, defeating Ion Graur of Moldova in the Kittei kata round. Next round he faced the experienced Dejan Nedev for a kumite match. Early on in the fight Martin scored wazari with a superb maegeri. Despite frantic efforts, Nedev was unable to score and Martin was through to the Semi-Final. Here he faced Piotr Kulczynski from the home nation, which was always going to be difficult. This was a kata round and after narrowly losing, Martin picked up a well deserved bronze medal.
TEAM KUMITE First round opponents for England were the tough Russian team. First up for England was John Lowe, he came close with an early ushirogeri but the match finished with no score. Fuku-go hero Martin Cracknell was up next, but his fight went the same way as John's, with neither fighter scoring. The match now hinged on Jason Hitching's fight with the very capable Nadar Avdolyan. Avdolyan was just too sharp on the day and took the match with two gyakuzuki, he also went on to finish third in the individual kumite event. The Team kumite was won by Italy with Poland as runners-up, and Russia went on to finish third with Germany. John's ushirogeri just slides off. Jason attempts a sweep. click to enlarge above pics.
