Lee Wiseman is a junior instructor with the Academy, now (2006) 17 years old he has been training with the Academy since he was 7. In 2002 he passed his 2nd Grading with Master Kawasoe. Recently he was subjected to everybody's nightmare these day's, being set upon by a mob. While sitting on a bench, minding his own business, a
group of six youths passed by, but as they did so, one turned back,
approached Lee and demanded money. Lee refused, and the youth immediately
threw a punch at his head. Lee's training kicked in, he ducked the punch,
which just grazed his cheek, stood up and punched his attacker square on the
nose. By now, the attackers friends had turned back and they all set about trying to punch, kick and grab at him. Lee said " I managed to block and body shift out the way of everything they threw at me quite easily, at one point, one of them threw a kick towards my groin, I grabbed it and swept his standing leg away". Incredibly, while he was busy defending himself, Lee somehow managed to find time to hide his mobile phone down the front of his trousers. Eventually the onslaught was too great and Lee was
cornered. It was at this point that things took a turn for the worse.
Realising they weren't dealing with their usual kind of victim, three of the
attackers suddenly pulled out knives! Although we run special knife defence classes at the Academy, using the system as taught to Sensei Parrish by the renown close quarter fighting expert Guru Bob Breen, it is always stressed that students should not take on anyone with a knife (let alone three) unless there is absolutely no alternative. Lee did the sensible thing, and offered no resistance at this point. He was frisked, and the thieves stole £30. But Lee had the last laugh, he still had his phone tucked away in his secret hideaway, and they certainly weren't going to search him there!!! |
