Shobu-Ippon Open Shotokan Championships 2006

 

The Championships were held in Guildford, Surrey on Saturday 13th May. A small group of Academy members attended, and for the Waghorn family in particular, it proved to be a very successful day.

14 year old Rebecca won her kumite event, 11 year old Adam won his kata event and father, Reg won the kumite and was also runner-up in the kata. Also in the senior events, Emma Church won both the kumite and kata, and her son Jay reached the final of the junior black belt kata. Elliott Charing was a finalist in the Brown belt category.

Lilly Twydell won the girls black belt kumite and Abigail Poore placed second in the Green to Purple belt event. Abigail picked up her second trophy of the day when she placed third in the kata event.

In the senior ladies black belt kata, Marites Tomlinson placed second and her son Christopher also won a silver medal in the senior Team Kata event, with team mates Lee Wiseman and John Dickson.

Mike Gibbons picked up a silver medal as a member of the ETKF kumite team
